Cash Back

Every year, thousands of low-income New Yorkers miss out on money that is rightfully theirs for one reason: they don't file their taxes. The IRS estimates more than 200,000 New Yorkers have not filed their tax returns this year to receive the Economic Stimulus Payment.

Cash Back is a citywide initiative with grassroots organizations to assist thousands of first-time filers and other low-income earners take advantage of tax credits, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and the Child Tax Credit. Cash Back groups also link residents to free tax preparation sites throughout the city. Eligible New Yorkers can sign up for benefits, such as food stamps and free or low-cost health insurance.

Since 2006, the Cash Back campaign has helped 13,000 low-income New Yorkers receive $12 million in tax refunds.

If you are earning $54,000 or less, you can still file your taxes online for free by visiting www.beehivenyc.org/CashBack until October 15th.
